You,
are...too,
thin, my father.
Dad? You are too thin.
I wish
I could
take life of you
into me, spit it out, renewed--
and have you stand up strong again...

You.
My Dad.
The Strongest Man.
(I'll keep you from that curse...)
Me.
(I'm BAD.)
much stronger than...
(I'll be your burly nurse...)

I won't let them take you--NO.
I won't ever let you go...
I raise my fist unto the skies...
(like God has never seen one cry...?)

and still you whisper, "dignity"
as if, that ever was in me...
My Father? You are much too thin--
this time? I shelter YOU from wind.

all the fear that we disguise--
the blanket of a daily lie--
a look of truth unmet in eyes--
I try to feed you once again.

Oh daddy...please?
Smile once again
through lips that are
much too thin--
hold me tight
through this dark night
tell me all
will be alright
that there will be
a sheltered lee--
against the wind,
you'll wait for me.

The cycle turns
and we within it
child father to the man
father child to the man

seasons mark us lead us
harvest time planting eyes
moonlight fades with dawns reprise
as memories given down remain

the human rain
quenching nourishing all

It is a thing we all know or will be educated on. Take heart, in your heart.
You can offer him no other place so safe.

Be Well

Oh Serenity ... the emotions this elicited were very powerful indeed. Beautifully written, and wonderful phrasing. Many hugs to you for this heart-felt read this morning!

Best wishes and hugs,

Serenity, it was only 3years ago or so I was saying the same thing...he was too thin..and I tried to get him to eat anything despite whether it was  good for him or not..knowing that anything was better than nothing and if he enjoyed it's taste and  it put a smile on his face..then  it was worth it..for I knew that no matter...it would soon be the last thing he tasted of life...

((huggssss))and keep that smile on your face, even though it is hard to do..it will bring him pleasure

You whisper truth in dignity
That is the only blanket
Against what the world might see

Some may call him weak-
Some may call him strong
But in the end its all a part
of loves simple song

If I had the choice
Much strength I would bequeath
Strength to stand strong
And to cry if need be

I wish you peace
And the knowledge
You are always loved

hey....you guys are beautiful...and I'm okay, and he's amazing. Some days he looks awful, and then the next day he'll be gardening. I am the one cracking up, I think. But wanted to thank you all---especially you, Kathleen---you are right. I am VERY LUCKY.   Thanks again, sorry I'm not replying as I used to---I do not like to tie up the phone so much anymore. But a million hugs to you all (I really AM very lucky!) Thank you all.

Oh my, how I relate to this, I see my Grandmother, at age 94, some days so like herself, and others, just a shadow remains. I hope your Dad is ok, and you take care. Very excellent discussion here, of a subject so sad and so real.

You brought back some painful memories for me, and all I can give you today is a hug, and I hope it helps some, and just keep loving him as you do now, that is all the food he really wants.

Serenity,

A simply powerful poem. You brought a lump to my throat just thinking of my father.  We all know that the day will come, even though we force the thoughts from our mind.  Now I have to go call my dad and tell him how much I love him   Hugs to you.

serenity, I can see you trying to get your dad all kinds of goodies!  As a care giver, that is one thing we can have fun with.  Love him, hug him and talk and listen to him.  My prayers are with you both.  ME

You touched my heart with this piece.  This was me two years ago and I could feel how deep your pain and wish there were some words of comfort I could give you.  Just know that I'm here for you always if ever you need me.  Take care......love Sue.

I will take every prayer. Every offering.
He told me at Christmas...every day is a gift...I believe him now.
He also told me yesterday? "You damned people (his children) have been burying me every year---I wish you would cut that out!"
He's amazing. Hugging myself.
