There is a house
in western
Russell County,
no one will die there,
for in the dust
and rotting
timbers,
lay remants
of
a past gone by.
Rock posts
standing as silent sentinels
above the Smoky Hill,
in the distance,
oil and grease
rise as sweat
on
concrete trails
to destinations yet unknown,
leaving behind crumbling
foundations
of
long agoes
beneath
blue Kansas sky,
across a
dry and barren land,
a wind still heard,
whispers,
for
in the past,
one
cannot
die.

Mike~
Oh, I like this free-verse form from you.
Nicely penned.

I believe you've brought the place to life, if only for a moment...

There's something so sad, so lonely about those old forsaken homes, isn't there? This is great, Mike. No style of writing is beyond you!
