The Term of Kelly-Mae
©2001 C.G. Ward

she stares at the ceiling
              and tries not to think.
- the pictures, though, are gone.
still,
       drowning can’t cover her memories,
and drinking can’t answer her pain.

‘oh give me the power
     free me of these demons,
  and please, oh please,
       lend me the strength
    to abide even just today’

so she cries at the water
             to step from the brink.
- but darkness shades the dawn.
still,
        friendship can’t fathom her miseries,
and crumbling can’t wash the stains.

oh she screams at the skies
and rails at the night
         burning her life,
freezing the core of her despair
she wonders what ashes
       can counter her prayers
   and claims
that beating can free her sacrifice,
    shake the pillars of helplessness

stumbling to the valley,
choking on the dust of experience
     she falls

Sorry to be plaguing you with this stuff, but as I've said before - 'There are times when even the mightiest must bow to inevitability.'

Peace,

C

Okay. That's it. You are driving me nuts.
If I have to STAPLE the curtains back up tomorrow, I will do so...

There was a bit of intricacy to the rhymes of this that I loved...wove like musical notation Chris...this one too, I keep.

studying YOU now. grin

*sigh*

This is wonderfully written Chris. You know I love your prose, but darn! Your poetry is so good too!!! I feel as thought Kelly-Mae is a part of all of us...that's why it speaks to us so.

Hey Chris,
I have to agree with Sharon. Not only do I enjoy your poetry,
I too believe that Kelly-Mae is in all of us in part.
quote:
stumbling to the valley,
choking on the dust of experience
     she falls

A sudden and gripping ending. I love it!
Much enjoyed!

Excellent Chris!  I love the way you've carried though the pattern and subtle rhyme scheme throughout, especially above ... it flowed beautifully. Very powerful and emotive sentiments, very nicely written indeed!

Best wishes,
/Kit

This really makes one want to go out and help her back up, but by the time we've reached her, she's vanished...

well done Sir!

this is a plague???

Well ok. . . but it's one that I don't mind having. . .

I felt, like the others, that this character was (and is) a part of all of us. . . and you did a good job in showing her feelings of loss and darkness. . .
