With all the preparations that had built up to this day,
The plans, the lists, the chaos; all decisions under-way;
It came to this, the final hour, when all was said and done,
The last defining moments of her single life as one.

The bridesmaids chattered endlessly, fluffed up her gown and veil,
One commented, "My dear, you should sit down, you're looking pale."
She needed time to think, and asked them all to leave the room,
And heard one say on exiting . "Has someone seen the groom?"

The groom was busy wrestling with a tie around his neck
Hands shaking, sweating like a monk, he was a nervous wreck!
Reality was setting in...the day had finally come
To say goodbye to moments of a carefree, single bum.

What happened here? He did not know! One minute he was free
Cavorting in his bachelorhood, as happy as could be
And then one day he fell in love which now had led him here
Staring at a penguin staring right back from the mirror!

"Has someone seen the groom?" began to echo through her ears,
Now why would they have said that? She recanted through her fears;
Perhaps he wouldn't show, and leave her standing in the aisle .
While waiting for him alter bound, as he skipped town in style?!

She paced the floor and wrung her hands, for did she really know,
The man she was about to join, just moment's left to go?
Perhaps she should have let her father "do" that background check,
But she had laughed it off, oh my . she really was a wreck!

"It seems like only yesterday..", he thought, "I asked to date her
Now here I stand, hands shaking, like a Roman gladiator!
The crowd is outside cheering as I take a final breath
All knowing that this soldier is about to meet his death!!!"

"Oh, no!", he thought, "That is not true. It isn't death - but life!
I love the girl with all my heart...I WANT her for my wife!
She'll give me love and happiness and share my joy and more..
(So why is it, within my mind, I hear the lions roar?)"

Her father tapped upon the door, and asked to join her then,
She paused a moment, "Get a grip!" she whispered from within,
"Come on in dad." she answered, as he walked in through the door,
The second that she saw him, all the tears began to pour.

He smiled and took her in his arms, his little girl all grown,
"He'll be here soon." he comforted, (or else I'll break his bones!)"
He tipped her chin to look at him, and said "What do you think?"
"I've got the car out back if you should change your mind." he winked.

He heard a knock and there stood Bob, his best man, at the door
His eyes still bloodshot from the bachelor gig the night before.
"It's time", he said, "to make the female population cry.
Not every day one gets to see a living legend die!"

"The church is filled. The music's playing. Flowers are everywhere.
Your sister looks ridiculous with sparkles in her hair
So let's go, pal. It's time to rock and roll and wed your bride
Unless, of course, you're smart enough to run somewhere and hide!!!!

She smiled up at her father, to the man she so adored,
He brushed away a final tear, from both their eyes once more;
She took a breath and nodded . to the door they walked ahead,
And took her place in line behind the bridesmaids, to be wed.

The organ music echoed through the great cathedral walls,
The girls began their graceful walk, but she just froze and stalled;
She grabbed a little tighter, to her father's strong embrace,
Looked down the aisle until she saw her love's familiar face.

He stood there, tugging at his collar, swaying side to side,
Then heard the whispers from the front row.."Look! Here comes the bride!"
He wheeled and looked and felt his face take on a growing smile
The most beautiful woman in the world was walking down the aisle.

Her father placed her hand in his and gave a  silent nod
And so they stood, exchanging vows before mankind and God
All doubts and fears now disappeared as she became his wife
And, two as one, they now moved on toward a brand new life....

STOP!!!! stop!!!! This is not how the story will end.  Let me assure you of this!!!! Do you want the reality or the fanasty version? which will it be - I say this respectfully. I will NOT put certain parties to the "test" to stand up for me - I can do that alone if need be.  To be quite honest I'm not a good map reader - and that is the truth!!!

For those who believed in me -May  God keep you. There is no fear in love..For perfect love casth out all fear.

Oh how I remember the feelings running through me just before walking down the
aisle. The two of you portrayed both sides
just great. Enjoyed the excitment through
out the whole poem.

I have to love this....although I'm sure mine will be a bit different...right now I'm in an argument with my sister and future mother-in-law because THIS bride steadfastly refuses to wear SHOES!!! rofl...OMG...another sister accused me of trying to kill my father---she said one look at me in the "gown" I picked out and he was going to die laughing! HAS ANYONE EVER BROUGHT THEIR FATHER ALONG WHEN THEY ELOPED? OMG...(serenity exits...trying to take deep breaths...) Loved the poem you two...but now MY nerves are shot!

’Deer dearest heart Kit darling girl again a perfect marriage of words, I love this it is utterly utterly excellent. The truth of this is soooooooo real, I had all this with Emma last year, hers didn’t end so happily, it was indeed the wedding from hell. And I might add it cost a fortune Krissy could give you chapter and verse on being a bridesmaid……

This is superb writing meshed with complete artistry

I wub you too
Love and warm stuff
As always
Mushy

Breathe through the heat of our desire
Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire
Speak through the eathquake wind and fire
Oh
