A Portrait of a Mother's Love

In rocking chair, by candle light,
With shadows drawn across the night,
A vision of angelic form,
Beheld my eyes this wondrous morn.

A gentle motion to and fro,
Held mesmerized, my gaze aglow;
As lullabies were sweetly sung,
To mother's breast, the infant clung.

Enfolded tenderly in arms,
I watched, enraptured, by their charms;
For in the candle's light above,
'Twas portrait of a mother's love.

A wisp of hair fell 'cross her face,
Head tilted slightly, bowed in grace;
With lilting voice, she sweetly crooned,
As infant suckled, there in tune.

The heartbeats of the two entwined,
As if to perfect rhythm, chimed;
There, bathed in warmth of body heat,
While gently rocked, their souls did meet.

By candle's light, these angels shone,
Sweet miracle of sacred bond.

Kit,
This is truly the most beautiful poem I've ever read of mother and child.
Each verse is exquisitly written.
This treasure will be enjoyed by many.
A lovely poem from a lovely poet

Kit:  You have captured the most precious gift a woman could have.  Your words are exceptional.  I am going to keep this in my library and I thank you for writing it.

see the lights faded
that heaven is overrated
Did you fall for a shooting star

It took me a while to be able to respond to this... for it's a portrait I can only observe and envy. *S* But you've written a tender beauty that deserves recognition even from bitter ole crones. *G* This is stunning, Kit... well done!
