I Had a Dream

I had a dream I walked in streets
A prairie town, in dead of heat
I lived in long ago
And in this dream, I heard the sounds
Familiar voices all around
Of people that I know

I walked the street of dusty centuries
Heat arose like rusty memories
On horizons of the plains
And I remembered all the faces
Inside the old Sunrise Cafe
But maybe not all of their names

I met a friend, an old gold miner,
Lost his touch and then his mind
Was much too frail and old
He had no roof , he had no dime
He said a moment of your time
Is worth a barrel full of gold

He spoke of love, like it was treasure
What was lost cannot be measured
Nor what never would be found
I traded love for dreams of fortune
But the taste of love is warmer
Than what lies below the ground

A woman’s eyes are jewels of wonder
Underneath her skin so tender
There’s a heart that’s made of gold
There is a splendor that outshines
The brightest nougat in a mine
Such beauty n’er did I behold

Then with a smile and eye that gleamed
He walked out of this vivid dream
So moving and so real
I knew the treasure of my life
Was by my side, my lovely wife
The power of love I deeply feel

But through the dream my love grew stronger
Words of love we shared no longer
Now flowed easy from the tongue
Sweeter is the morning kiss
More savory is lover’s bliss
For now the silent songs are sung

Perhaps the miner once was me
Recalling love that he set free
But I would rather think
This dream was simply so contrived
And I am really quite alive
And running out of poet ink

Liz, I would hope that you're not running out of poet ink, but that it would flow in you like your blood. . .

this is excellent. . . I feel that perhaps. . . we've all been that miner. . .

superbly written. . .

Poets never run out of ink....as Marge's signature quote says, "The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe."

Poetry is forever.

May your ink never run dry and may you always dream, Elizabeth. If not, we would all be the poorer for it.

Love ya

Oh,LizzieLady~
You will NEVER run out of that gorgeous poet's ink ...
for you've written your soul to last for all time.

This is just a wonderful render.

What a lovely transition of thought.  A friend and I were this weekend talking of previous lives...

and why not?  Imagination must come from somewhere....

and this was written on another plane!  Well done!

I often wonder if most poets use pen and paper, I use Word but I wonder if there is something timeless about the pen...I enjoyed this one, Liz.

I really loved this one...I use a pen and pad when I am out, and never leave home without one.  Welcome back by the way, and this was wonderful.

Can't imagine you running out of ink, but if you do, there's alway a pencil or crayon or Word or even speach, so you will always be able to share those beautifull poems with us.
