I opened my box of chocolates
to see sweet wrappers in bright colours
the reds, the greens and the golden hued
each one bringing back memories
as if the hidden grey cells
were being coloured again

I remember the girl
who sat next to me
with a pencil between her teeth
trying to fight acute hunger
she felt just before a break
I had given her a chocolate
wrapped in golden hue
and how well her face had shone
for the rest of the day!

I remember the day
my teacher had got angry
at all of us vagrant souls
trying to play mischief
with childish pranks
like throwing pieces of chalk
and feeding on noisy chewing gum
I decided to give my teacher one
with a violet wrapper that calmed her down

I remember one of my big days at school
when I won a prize for writing an essay
pollution and its hazards,
that was what it was all about,
and I had written my heart's fill
about the grassy meadows
I gave myself a big milk chocolate
and kept the green wrapper aside

I remember the evening walk
that I shared with my pre-teen crush
one pre-summer evening
as we indulged in sluggish motion
keeping a calculated distance
as if controlled by passing of time
we had both eaten a chocolate each
and I saved the bright red wrappers

now I saw my yesterdays
in delightfully coloured wrappers
each one from a particular time
some meant more than others
but each one had a meaning all the same
and I flashed a smile at my childish games!

This is beautiful! I am so glad I didn't miss it! You have a beautiful way with words, this is a very expressive poem. I hope to see more of your writings.

I smiled, too. *S* What a great walk through memories... The theory around my office is that chocolate may not help... but it never hurts! *G*
