Do you think that a song
Should be etched upon your heart?
Would you like the muscle that pumps
Your vital life
Be reduced
To a music box dancer

She sings the song on an empty stomach
And her veins are pumping
You sit there and declare
It's the song that speaks your heart
Her sweat beads bleed for you

Do you think that a song
Should have a beginning
Or an end
A bridge or a gap
A feel or a mood

All of the records in L.A.
Perch on the golden boys wall
And here comes Mister Earthquake
Are you ready for the fall

Rock in Roll rest...
In pieces... rest in...
Pieces... fallen from the golden boys wall
Rest in pieces...
Each one I will cherish
Like splinters in my side
They remind me of the pain
Of yesterday
When records were in
And vinyl was sin

Do you think that a song
Is worth something to somebody
If it aint worth a thing to me
Do you think that a song
Should be eight minutes long
2 minutes throbbing
6 minutes sobbing
And cut short for the radio

Echo life...
Echo art...
Fade in... fade out...

I think that a song
should last a whole life long,
have plenty of soul
a beat that ain't whole
and an E minor flair
with a bit of dare,
reverb-heavy bass
lyrics in your face,
something to remember
in the cold days of December!

Thanks for the cool croonin' ride, Walt!

every song should be accompanied by a cheeseburger with fries!

first, i would love for my heart to be a shaped box with a music dancer at the controls, as long as it the one you speak of here.  second, i think a song should make you feel, like that of your poetry.  third, as witnessed everyday by your shining joy once your ears are filled with music, i think that you are "somebody" and a song does mean something to "me."  fourthly, 'cuz of # 3 i cant answer this one.  i like your inquisitive thoughts

Echo life...
Echo art...
Fade in... fade out...
