The Earth Moved
Virginia Salter

Well, it must’ve
cuz old yellow sun
commenced to settin’
way north in the sky.

Touchin’ edges
of them there clouds
all filled up with deep, dark gray
Yeah, touchin’ them edges
with glints of gold
and firin’ that gray up
with bits of crimson
puttin’ rose on them cheeks

‘N’ just a gentle puff of blue
cerulean trimmed in navy
surroundin’ those bits of fluff
hangin’ there
colorin’ in their weak attempt
to block ol’ Sol’s light

But-cha’ know
ol’ Sol’s sleepy
he jus’ sinks down
past the ebony rim of earth
pullin’ that land
right on up
over its head
an’ with a big ol’ gapin’ yawn’
o’ sunset colors
it says g’night to all
reaches up
turns off the light
leavin’ jus’ a tender glow
in its wake
that ol’ moon grabs it
an’ gets jus’ enough
for a night-light
to stay the fright
of blackness.

The whole piece is wonderful -  but most of all I loved this imagery:
"ol’ Sol’s sleepy
he jus’ sinks down
past the ebony rim of earth
pullin’ that land
right on up
over its head
an’ with a big ol’ gapin’ yawn’
o’ sunset colors
it says g’night to all
reaches up
turns off the light
leavin’ jus’ a tender glow
in its wake"

Of course I could not conclude without remarking - the title - made me read - and my expectation was much different -~grin~
Suffice to say I was NOT disappointed ~smile~

Thank you all,  and Wilfred, I'm positive I know what you mean.  I was afraid that possibly that title might keep people away, but then, wait, that's silly, cuz I see bigger numbers of comments after titles that are less subtle in their hint of what's inside being related to 'other kinds of earth movements.' ;O}

You have chosen to enjoy the same section that I enjoy most, too.  I'm thrilled and encouraged.  Thank you so much for your definitive comment.

Virginia....Glad I didn't miss this. "..to stay the fright of blackness..." Wish I'd written that. Bob

Thanks, Bob, it was a fun one to write.  Glad you liked that particular phrase.  Surely that's what the moonlight is for, for on a new moon, the blackness is powerful.
