You keep waiting for geese;
they do not come. You
remember the day it rained canvasbacks
in front of your Grandfather's rifle,
his black and white boarder collie
through tall jump-weed returned,
mouth filled with feathers.

You stand hip deep in marsh
on an early April's morning
listening to the thunder of your heart,
camera cocked against first light
waiting cold callings to pierce
grey skies.

You're forty-three. Spring drags
up another life cycle and somewhere
deep down you know part of yours
is lost, leaving behind ghosts
of an autumn's whisper.

Your fingers numb to trigger shape
over your camera; empty skies
return their silence. You keep
waiting for geese they do not come.

Wonderfully done.. almost as if I were watching..

There is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar.

Good work, Julian.  Since I'm not a hunter, glad to see the camera.

Thanks to all of you for sharing a snippet of Montana with me, and memories of a dear man, my Grandfather. Hunt always with the camera, never with a weapon.

Julian, I hated to respond to this because I didn't want to leave it to come over here.  The photo, superb, the poem wonderful, the music perfect.  Greywolf is the artist, right?  I recognize the music as some I heard on PBS and amazingly had forgotten about til today.  I really think I need a copy of it.  Do you know the name of the C.D.?  The combination of the 3 pieces resulted in tears shed because of the wondrous beauty encompased here.  Thanks for writing, thanks for sharing!!!
