Listening to every heart

0 posted 2001-05-04 06:47 AM

I Believe In You

You were born out of a dream
or perhaps other circumstances
I know I was

but regardless, you came to life
with hands, arms, limbs and a heart
or perhaps not all of those
I know I was

you strived and thrived
or perhaps you just got along
I know I have

and you are here now,
reading this
I know I am…

So while you are here,
know this:

I Believe In You.

I believe in your heart and your
soul,
your gifts and ambition
for even though
you think
you haven't any,
you do

because you are here
reading this.

You saw four words
and wondered what kind
of idiot would
write drivel like that.

Then perhaps you saw
something that said
"that's me"
and read
on.

that's why

I Believe In You.

There is still a spark inside,
or the spark is being
flamed
by what you
do, but certainly
for who you
are.

Your ambition has wings
even though you might
not have arms.

Your desires have legs
even though you might
not have limbs.

Your courage has heart,
even though yours
may have been
weakened by
loss.

I Believe In You.

So take this day
and make it your own.

And if you feel this message
has been
a gift,

then

it
is yours
to share.

I have special reasons to post this today.  Thank you, Passions, Ron...for believing in yourselves and yourself...

and for allowing us to share that belief, in this love of poetry, so that we might believe, a little more,in ourselves.

I do recall this from your first post, Karilea - It's a wonderful poem... To believe in onself is the first stepping stone to our successes in life... Nicely done, my friend...

The world NEEDS more poems like this -
Just as it has been said "Before one can truly love another - one must love one's self" what you've said here shares equal importance:

Karilea,

I missed this the first time around and am so glad you posted it again.  Yes, we must all believe in ourselves, as I believe that each one of us has special gifts, joys and hopes to share.  This was beautiful and I believe in you, as does everyone here.

My best,

I never have read this before and I am so glad you posted this especially today as well.  It is with the support of people like you Karilea that we each are able to believe in ourselves just a little bit more.  As each person posts a poem we relate to, our inner strength becomes stronger, and with your poetry being so inspiring; it is always that extra "ooomph" needed and for that so I thank you.  I too also wish to thank Ron and his friends who created this place in order that personal strength can be built in numbers towards a healthy, happy environment of people who DO believe in themselves.

Sunshine,
I know this wasn't written for me but I needed it and  therefore I am claiming it. In thanks  I would like to say.

When I can't seem to believe in myself
you  just carry on  believing, in me
you give me warming courage to go on
and  you see more than I can ever see

When I feel hollow, gutted from without
your words reach out and gently comfort me
How dare I  now not, believe in myself
When you constantly  show a belief in me

And when my downs overshadow ups
and I am bound  within by all I see
The tunnel has a sunshine light in it
Because you say that you believe in me

Friendship is a gift, opening eyes to see
Potential of a wild and windswept heart
All because you dared believe and tell me
I've read; and to believe in me I'll start.

I would like to thank everyone for taking a moment to read this, and especially thank those who said they "claim it!"

This last weekend I had occasion to re-vamp it as I incorporated this poem into and at the end of an acceptance speech.  My first "reading" of my own poetry, if you will.

Suffice to say, I was a little surprised to see several sets of eyes tear up at this.  But I was overwhelmed when several members of the organization to whom I was speaking came up and asked for a copy.  The next day, I set out double the number of copies that had been requested, fully ready to take them all back home and shred them for filler.

I am very humbled to say that not only did I not take any of them home, but after they were picked up, I was also asked if I would give permission to have them used in newsletters and other publications.  As one of my goals this year is to increase our membership of the association to which I belong, I gave permission that the poem could only be used for the individual chapters IF they brought in a new member first, and got them to join our state association!

But all of this would have never happened, if I had not found Passions.

Thank you all again.
