Insecure Men

by Michael

A jealous man
enslaves
the weaker sex
and
dictates how much
freedom
shes to know.

So many things
shes not
allowed to do.

In so many ways
shes not
allowed to grow.

She lives in
his shadow
and
will never reach
her peak.

Because
hes insecure,
he sees her
as a sneak.

He holds the key
to all she is
and wont unlock
her life.

Such is the jealousy
some men feel for
a wife.

An insecure man is definitely the weakest link! Great thoughts!

Oh, but so many boys try to fit into the role of a man. What a waste. Thank you for tackling a sensitive subject.

This is great poetry and true sometimes, but how can a woman allow herself to be so demeaned, in the name of love?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if all men saw as you do, Auguste?  You have the whole picture...others, a fading snapshot of what could have been.

Excellent.

Hmmm, had me a wife once that fit this to a tee...only in reverse, she being the jealous party...didn't have her long....

walker,
Jealousy all too often keeps a woman from realizing her hopes and dreams, her full potential.  That is wrong.  Thanks for reading.

Julian,
I'm sure this poem touches some men in ways they would prefer not to acknowledge.  As a writer, we often touch on sensitive topics,
as we must.  Thanks

Joyce,
I've often asked myself that same question.  Though the man may be insecure and jealous, that doesn't mean that he's a particularly bad person.  He may be a wonderful person and dearly love the woman.  He just needs to grow up some and allow his wife or lover the space to be who "she" wants to be.
Thank, Joyce.

Karilea,
Many men, especially now that the world is changing so, see as I do.  Thanks for reading

JLR,
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for the comments.

jwesley,
Most of my friends are women and their husbands readily accept my relationship with their wives, knowing that their wives love them only.

this is definatly a universal issue...
and a two way street.
I can be a jealous beast when i want to *L*
I think deeply imbedded jealousy and insecurity like you speak of here comes from loss in a persons life somewhere along the way.
Insecurity often stems from things being taken too soon from a child security.
It makes me very sad...
anyway...sorry to ramble...
your poem was thought provoking...and touching...
and lovely in its rhyme as well
well done poet sir.

you speak to me in riddles
and you speak to me in rhymes
my body aches to breathe your breath
your words keep me alive

I agree with you whole heartedly but the door swings both ways just as often...and sometimes I think its easier for women to get away with "sneaking"
god knows I cant even publicly advertise and get a response

Michael--It seems to be that trust is a big part of a loving relationship...and some find it very difficult.  Thank you for this interesting and thought provoking poem.

You made your point well...doesn't matter if your significant other is a friend, lover, or spouse...if they want to play the jealousy game they are definately insecure and unsure of themselves...James

"He holds the key

This is a very powerful piece Michael. It's so very sad when someone is "kept down" with reins as tight as these. A very thought-provoking verse, very well written!

Best wishes,

Elizabeth Anne,
Thanks for reading.  I'm glad you agree.

Janet,
I have to agree with you that sometimes loss in a person's life will cause them to act in this way.  Even so, we all know that it's wrong.  Thanks

Kevin,
Hey, you and me both.    Thanks

Martie,
Trust always has to be there in order for the relationship to work.  Thanks, my friend

Deer,
Yes, some women do and that's a shame.  Thank you.

Sue,
It's good to see you, my friend.  Thanks for reading.

James,
Yes, insecurity is what it's really all about.  A fear of losing, of not being good enough.  It's really sad when you think about it.  Thank, James

Kit,
True.  Kept down is what it's truly about.  Never being able to realize one's full potential because your wings have been clipped.  Thanks, Kit.

Sven,
Yes, it does, my friend.  Thank you for reading this piece.

Michael,
I agree, although I too believe  the door swings both ways.
