A Poets Effect(ions)

Do you ever think the poets words
you read on here are meant for you?
Do you reply as if they are
and give no thought, effect you do?

Poets write for masses, all
In hopes to touch at least a few.
Tell me truth, do you often think
a poets words are meant for you?

Have you ever wondered in replies
If your words returned are much too sweet?
And do you wonder should you hold back
Tone down the flirt, take a break, retreat...

I'm curious, these thoughts today
when reading words that flowed this way...

In light of the gossip that always seems to coincide in large sites like this on the net...
you ask some pertainant questions here Maureen...
We all flirt and tease in replies at times...
especially with friends we have established contact with behind the scenes...
but some assume too much when reading the replies...
and we all are capable of misreading a poems intent....
I personally have a rule....
If I write a poem for a muse...I tell them its for them...and I hope the same is done for me...
then there is no assuming wrong.
But considering the size of Passions,
we all do pretty well in here, in maintaining a balance.
Thought provoking poem....thanks

I am guilty in only that I read the poets words and try to figure out who they wrote them for. Some answer poems that I'd swear they thought it was for just them. Then it makes me wonder if some take it all to serious. Let it go to their head and build castles in the sky with one who doesn't even know their name. It is such a shame to fall in love with only words.
Forgive me, but yes I've even placed you with one of the gentleman poets. Couldn't help it, just seemed as if you two fit in the lines.

Sometimes a poem speaks to me so deeply I feel it must have been written for me... but I do know that wasn't the poet's intent, just the alignment of the universe. *S* Such is the power of poetry....

Now the power of gossip... that's another bucket of worms. *S* Seriously, you've presented a thought-provoking issue... and written it very well!

Sometimes it's obvious that some poets are closer ..but teasing is easily ascertained...I don't speak too much behind the scenes with poets on here only of my own personal life mostly...
But yes, I brought this up as when reading several in the past few days, I have noticed where some take to heart others words even if as a muse or in response..for we are all "poets" here and sometimes rely on each others words to "hearten" us..and as friendships do build, it is wonderful to be inspired by another and to include them in a poem or two...to flirt JM  *as in stinkie winkie ( hope I got that correct *s)etc etc.. brings a smile to my face..it shows a deep abiding caring and trust..but that comes with time and acknowledgement from "the other" that it is ok to do so...one should never "assume" and should just enjoy the  play on words that  so often occurs on here..thank you for your response..I had nothing to  write about today except for these thoughts...   thank you again for your response

I am responding separately only because it is easier to do to this question/poem today...

I wonder why reading a poem brings the question to whom is it for...if I write of fantasy and I guess only I know that to be a fact...I am writing to any and all that can feel from me something that makes them enjoy my words..or relate to it..and many times it is obvious because the "other" would be a shadow or an inanimate object used metaphorically...hope I spelled that correctly or used it  properly.
...and I agree that some answer a poem as if it was written specifically for them...

now if a response is specific in teasing or meant to be taken seriously I will return  one in the same manner, as do many others on here...If I am correct in assuming...there is that word again..I and a certain gentleman friend do at times write together, behind the scenes or inspire one another and will use the same topic to see how each turns out..and if your assumption is correct we are very good "poet friends" having met in real sharing a meal, laughs and some pleasant thoughts that hopefully lay ahead for each of us, separately.

"build castles in the sky with one who doesn't even know their name" is so wonderful an expression..if I had  been aware of that before I may have used it for a title..*s.
It is never "a shame to fall in love with only words"..I have met many a poet   because of their words..and if that leads to more than on here, then it was worth the loving of such...
"just seemed as if you two fit in the lines"...we made it that way...we have fun with poetry, especially when we are both feeling a bit disappointed in life...but we are and will continue to be very good friends
and hope to amuse each other and inspire each other to write poetry that others can enjoy..thank you so much for your most honest and thoughtful response...

huggzzzz

"just the alignment of the universe" so well put

I try not to get into the gossip thing that is why I talk to so few on here or at other sites..it is human nature to wonder...and sometimes the easiest way to stop gossiping or supposition is maybe to write a thought provoking poem as I have done to make aware that a poem is a poem and for all to enjoy unless someone emails or made it known that it is for another and also when I say inspired by..it means  just that..that someones words..whether a friend or not enticed me to the point of writing a poem  using a phrase, a word, a thought or in a title and I wish to give them credit so as not to be thought of stealing it..

It  would never mean the inspiration is anything more to me than that at the moment   I thank you also for your response...huggzzz

But Wynter...you mean you did not write this one JUST for me?  I'm heartbroken...

LOL...it is nice to sit here and know that we are all vital, lively, current poets...we do not belong to a dead poets' society...so it is easy to assume that YOU must have meant this for ME...

but then we read the responses, and we know you speak to the masses that join us here every day...

such as it is, and as it should be!

We will all, that read this, take away some part of it for ourselves...

as it should be!

OF COURSE!!! IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!!!! Every word--ESPECIALLY THE LOVE POEMS---not for YOU or YOU or YOU or YOU....BUT ME...IT'S ALL ABOUT ME, I TELL YA! (Oh. Pardon me. I think it's medication time.)

ROFLMAO...I loved this, and yes, in answer to the question, sometimes I do need to take a break....and then I come back to find sweet little gems like this one!

An excellent poem with an excellent question.   I'll say Yes, but not often..actually very few times. As for further discussion, perhaps I'll save it. Maybe we could have a discussion about it in The Lounge?

Yes, I have and I realize it's often times unwarranted.  I admit it, we tend to think the entire world knows exactly what we are going through and people have their own problems and agenda and often times it has nothing to do with us, but we think "Oh, Lord, this poem is all about me!"  That's my honest answer anyway, I'm reading more and enjoying it more because I know that fantasy is a wonderful outlet in this crazy world we live in.  Without it, Walt Disney would have gone broke and nowhere!!!

Hey Serene one...well if I  loved women...in that way  *teasing now*  maybe then my poems would be meant for you......now lets see what gossip flies!!!

I placed this thought in the lounge, although I don't know if it will lead to anymore discussion...  thank you, for your
response

Maureen

Kathleen,
I know we sometimes are on the same wave lengths whether it be a happy day or a disappointing anxious one, as there are only so many emotions humans go through. So I understand the need to know we aren't alone in our thoughts and feelings...thanks
