Reflections

She walks to the corner
and looks up to the green mountains
in the backyard of a city where she has
lived for many years,
a place where she has buried her heart
and found it again
gurgling with laughter.

The steps are so familiar
that a new brick in the wall
is startling.

Years have gone into collecting memories
that she has sometimes stashed without thought,
because to put them away was all she needed
to forget, she thought.

There are others that she folded with care
and tenderly packed in tissue.
These are the ones she takes out
to feel again the fresh tear,
to hear the beloved laughter,
to touch the fabric of time past.

She picks flowers from her garden,
puts them on the table
and walks around in her life,
but, sometimes she thinks
there is something that she has forgotten
and it is important for it has left
an empty chair at the place
where her life gathers for nourishment.

She cannot name it or give it face
but she can play it
on the black and white keys of
her childhood piano,
she can write it in poetry
and she can whisper it in wonder
when she is looking at the night sky.

Today she glimpses it sideways
peeking around the corner of her French door,
covered with sunshine.

It is her own reflection in the glass.

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.
(ee cummings)

Hey hon...your new picture is beautiful!!!

WOW...

I don't have much time this morning..and I'll come back and finish what I start here at a later date lol..

you said you wanted to learn how to condense?
Let me illustrate how you could do that with your first verse - I think it's lovely as is, but if you wanted to go for a condensed look how about something like this:

Walking to the corner
she looks to green mountains
in the backyard of a city where
she buried her heart
and found it again,
laughing.

???

Something like that anywho...

This is a lovely poem as usual hon...librarying and I'll come back to it properly ..miss ya...

Martie~
This is just marvelously written !
You know I just love the little surprising turns your writing takes...

'She picks flowers from her garden,
puts them on the table
and walks around in her life,
but, sometimes she thinks
there is something that she has forgotten
and it is important for it has left
an empty chair at the place
where her life gathers for nourishment.'

So fresh and ORIGINAL ...

If you take out 'gurgling with laughter' ...
I'm gonna spank you !

Beautiful, my friend.
Love n' hugs~

You know...you absorbed me into this one, just the right amount of images that let me do some of the work, and I loved that.  It is kind of like fill in the blanks and that makes for excellent poetry, which is something I am afraid I am starting to expect from you as you always deliver, wow, this was great!

Oh thank you for this, Martie, it reminded me of my piano as a child and I love to play. This is perfect!

a place where she has buried her heart
and found it again
gurgling with laughter.

Right out of the gate the above phrase carried me away with you.  I so like the response:
Sincerely--this is terrific!!!, too.

Then, more and more lines enthralled me.  This is fantastic!!

I've read this again and again... the depth is amazing, the imagery superb.

but, sometimes she thinks
there is something that she has forgotten
and it is important for it has left
an empty chair at the place
where her life gathers for nourishment.

Some lines make me smile... these make me ache... all make me think... and applaud. *S*
