Night
Virginia Salter

the black of night
is deepened by the whispers
from the corners and the alleys
in this dank piece of town

tin cans roll
across the pavement
then a grate,
echoing as running footsteps

two yellow eyes appear
low, near the wall
turning my feet into sand
as those eyes leap toward the movement
that startles the moment
here in the dark

as the orbs disappear
into midnight
a flicker of motion
behind is as a figment
waiting for reality to bring it home.

Please note:  This is totally contrived...I do not live in a dank part of town, there is none in our town.

Isn't it nice when one can roam their imagination?

Yes, yes, yes, Sunshine...and some things are much better to be imagined than experienced.  Thanks for reading!
