Tables Turned
April 25, 2001

I've completely forgotten who I once was,
since I learned to believe only what I see in your eyes.
Your smile is the same as it has always been,
but I feel something's changed, something deep and unseen.
In recent days your tentitive grasp,
has caused a chill to flash through my breath,
A dark cloud hangs over your voice and its rasp,
I feel an ending and it smells of death.
I bathe again and again to get clean,
whatever has changed it doesn't seem to be me.
I look in your eyes to find my belief,
but I find nothing there and fall into grief.
What's happened within to make such a change?
can I make it all well by setting a new stage?
Draped in the finest rags I could buy,
I walk back and forth trying to catch your eye.
But nothing is different you are so far away,
I cry myself to sleep one night after the next,
What have I done? What's happened to the sun of our day?
Is it really over? Is our life together wrecked?
A new day dawns and I find myself all alone,
a note lies just where you had been,
I don't want to read it but I really must learn,
does it tell the tale of why you turned out so mean?

"My lost love, I have waited for you,
prayed for you to be there for me.
Where have you gone, my love?
Do you not love me anymore?
I've needed you these days,
but you've only thought about yourself.
Goodbye."

Oh my god! What have I done?

Nicely done.  Sometimes we do have to look to ourselves for the answer.  Joyce

Though I'm not sure if my interpretation of this is what you intended...I truly enjoyed it and will save it for much further thought.  Thank you for this!
