I cannot help but wonder-
Just what this world would be,
If it were not peopled-
By men the likes of me?

Some say that I’m a good man,
I somehow doubt it’s true...
My heart’s revealed so clearly-
By the evil that I do.

I cannot help but think about-
The pain I’ve left behind.
Some of it was physical...
But most was of the mind.

I cannot help but dread the fact-
Some day I’ll have to face-
Eternal consequences...
And I’ll bear abject disgrace.

So sad to think of past mistakes-
My record, one black blot-
I’d change it if I had the power...
But, sadly, I cannot.

You are just such a sweetie...I promise you, I seriously doubt that what you call sins? are not even booked as regrets in the records of some of the men I have known...Hugs to you, for your sweet heart, Gunslinger!

None of us can change the past or undo what has been done...  but those with the heart and sensitivity to harbor sincere regrets for their actions which might have harmed others are generally those least in need of forgiveness. *S* Great poem, GS!

These are not the words of an evil doer.  But you are right.  Sometimes the smallest of transgressions can cause another pain and needs to be forgiven.  Joyce

The folks who are evil are the ones who never own up to the wrongs they've done and wouldn't change a thing about their past. That doesn't sound like you.

We can't always change the past, but hopefully we won't make the same mistakes
again. Very thought provoking write.

Such tender words in your poem indeed reveal a loving heart...

Thank you Gunslinger for this read...
