I lay within her womb
planted in summer seed
to live on after winter’s
deepened sleep, bursting
forth as wondrous light.

I am the fire within her heart,
the yearning hunger within her soul.
I stand within the darkness of light
at the moment of conception.

My cries, laughter and songs
to her are sadly silent though
I feel her touch and hear
the lullabies she sings.

From that single cell,
at the moment of conception,
my life is defined by 46 chromosomes,
30,000 genes – I am uniquely me.

I have left my footprints in tune
with her very life's rhythm. I am
practicing growth, tumbling
like an astronaut toward an
opening of air and light.

Life and death: these are the gifts
I bring to her. I shout with my silent words:
seek me with courage, pride and humility.
But most of all, seek me with love and strength,
for this is my path.

"Your children are life’s
longing for itself."

Kahlil Gibran

I wish for every child that they know the depth of love their mother has for them.  You portray this with such an aching elegance, I wish to cry and hold my own.

Indeed you have ...
and this is a wonderful poetic celebration!!
This is written from a very clever and unique perspective...
very well done JL

this reminded me of a verse I saw the other day in another site ...

"There are only two lasting bequests that we can hope to instill in our children ...
One being roots ...
the other ... wings.

Though my soul may sit in darkness,
It will arise in perfect light.
For I have loved the stars too fondly ...
To be fearful of the night.

Irish Rose: we share in having Jewish roots and also the respect for life.

Joyce: delighted to hear that you sing and talk to your child. They not only hear, they laugh and try to speak; however, because there is no air as such, their sounds are lost.

Mysteria: there is nothing so permanent as birthing a child and the bond continues until death and beyond.

Marge: thank you, life is precious.

Janet Marie: I totally agree that roots and wings are our bequests.

Thank you are for commenting. ~Shalom

Soaringeagle: thank you for your kind comment. Perhaps our diverse lives are, in part, dertermined when our biths are anticipated with courage, joy and love.
