Clear Cut

We did not think to find it there;
Not after thirty miles of washboard
Built by the Forest Service
As if they didn't care a jolt
For the sensibilities of city folks
And tourists. It worked.
For by the time we got to where we were going
Few dared doubt
That a bear in a hat
Looked out for each and every tree in the norhtwest.
And "hell, a truck!" my Dad would shout,
And we'd all breathe deep
The heavenly scent of old growth
Missed
By inches.

"clear cut"

irony in the title there. because the way you tell the story it is not so clear cut. which i adore. it's simple, and clean, and...still complicated.

Aurora and Virginia....I'm sorry for being slow to acknowledge your comments. Thank you.

Interloper....chuckling. Thanks. PS I'm thinking that I should share my "Snapping In" (remember the experience?) poem with you. Will have to dig it out this evening. Bob
