A re-post for Earth Day, Sunday April 22, 2001

                      ~*~*~

            Mother Earth's Cry

How long can I continue to love you,
   As you rape and desecrate
My very being and essence of nature?

How long can I continue to shelter you,
   As you lay waste
my abundant forests and plentiful jungles?

How long can I continue to quench your thirst,
As you pour forth intoxicants into
my crystal streams and life-giving waters?

How long can I continue to warm you,
As your dark clouds of industry ravage
my priceless atmosphere and angelic skies?

How long can I continue to feed and nourish you,
As you multiply and divide beyond
my abundant shores and pristine valleys?

How long can I continue?
   Not long my child ...
      Not long.

Excellent points well taken by me Kit! Well written, thought provoking!

"How long can I continue to feed and nourish you,
As you multiply and divide beyond
my abundant shores and pristine valleys?

                 How long can I continue?
                    Not long my child ...
                       Not long."

The world is still experiencing a population explosiion and the automobile (among other fossil fueled vehicles) continues to run over anything natural and green. The ironic thing is that our free enterprise system is built on growth...how about that eh?
Wonderful poem Kit! I hope others see things the same way.

I can see reading about one of my personal favorite subjects is going to be emotional for me and this reach deep believe me, nature in all of her glory can fall and its very sad, thank you for sharing,

A poignant reminder that we need to take care of what we have -
while we still have it !

Kit,

How long?  I read four years ago the the scientific community is in agreement that the earth in a hundred years will become uninhabitable.  Let's hope the nations of the earth will wise-up long before then.  This is a good piece and I'm glad I stopped by to have a read.  Take care.

Thanks so much everyone. It's not my usual writing style, but the topic was dear to my heart. Thank you for all the wonderful comments. I sometimes feel that if there's enough of us ... "maybe" we really can change things around.  Thank you all for your sentiments ...

Much appreciation to all,
/Kit
