~* Wonders *~

The plane streaked across the blue sky,
Vaporous trail dividing the heavens.
The trial remained long after the noise departed,
Slowing spreading and finally vanishing in broken winds.
Thus…in a brief half century, man had conquered the air,
Making, a lot of pomp and circumstance about it,
For better or worse in the affairs of the world.

From over the high trees came honking sounds,
A V-shaped formation of migrating geese,
Calling each other as they winged northward,
Leaving their southern resting grounds.
On they came in a majestic sweep,
Each bird in its appointed place in the large wing,
Stragglers and the young guarded,
By experienced fliers so as not to lag behind,
In this sixty-mile an hour flight speed.

This half-yearly voyage, perhaps 1,000 miles or so,
Undertaken with built-in knowledge of navigation,
Was conceived when the world began.
Theirs no flight by experiment’s trial and error,
But by a God-given sense of where they have to go,
Where they had to survive, breed and be fed,
And the knowledge of when to do it.

This was the order of time primeval,
Vital to their survival as a species.
The wonders made by man appear on the surface,
Very creditable and progressive but,
Can they ever replace natural ones that,
With familiarity, are often taken for granted?

What an excellent topic to write about! Makes one wonder what those geese, flying effortlessly in perfect formation, think when they see those big, lumbersome metal monstrosities go flying by. Can geese wink?

The ragged yet formed V shape of flight is still a sight of awe and wonder. Some our geese never leave and should. lol

Mysteria,

A good write here.  It reminded me of the Canadian gueese I see every year, the honking that precedes them for miles.  I always drop whatever I'm doing and go outside to watch them.  Thanks for this.

Mabe: I thought we had the same geese?  I guess when they get across the border they can't afford to travel? LOL

Auguste: It is truly a sight isn't it?  I saw two sets of them today, and right in front of them was a 747 heading for the airport, quite a sight! Thanks for reading.
