Sun Worshipers
Virginia Salter

Yesterday
slid open windows
threw open doors
went flat out with tulips
seeking the warm.

Now this morning
the tulips
cling tight to their petals
sheltering themselves from the cool rain
that drizzles
and showers them
to beyond
feeling clean.

And I
hug the indoors
seeking comfort
in the petals
of a blanket and warm socks
windows tight
furnace going
yet still chilled to the core.

Though rain is so needed
I find myself longing
to be again
flat out in praise
for the sun God had given
to drink in
through every pore
I possessed,

just as the tulips
spread their petals
exposing
smiling faces of stamen and pistol
flat out
in worship of sun
and its glow.
