On some days you give us respite, calm, complete delight
With the thunder of a waterfall or an eagle's flight
Nature's hidden wonders you so vividly display
Though your hand holds a simple pen, rich colors you convey.
But on this land we walk upon, under these same skies
Others walked before us, and their spirits rise
To share their stories with us... their joys and hopes, their fears -
Love and loss and language linger for discerning ears.
And you, my friend, are gifted... pure gold are tears that glisten
On your cheeks - You give such honor, as you stop and listen.
The vile taste of betrayal burns bitter on our tongue
As you force us to acknowledge those who were so wronged.
With a sweep of pen on paper, you share such pain and strife
That we see the resignation featured on a wasted life.
With your palette of descriptions, you paint for us with words
Ancients know the satisfaction of at long last being heard,
And nature spreads before us on the canvas you've created.
Just thought that I would let you know you're much appreciated.

indeed he does ... and he does it so well..
and looks pretty groovy in that hat too  LOL
very sincere and generous, cadence kissed tribute Ruthie..
and I know Mark will be both honored and touched by this....
his respect for Native Americans and nature has always shined in his poetry.
and your respect and love of poetry always shines in your words.

In another life...I know I loved you then
Lightning strikes twice...we're destined again.
We dont have to make promises...we were always meant to be

This is a wonderfully flowing tribute to Mark, Suthern!  You've captured some beautiful thoughts and phrasing within these lines ... very nicely done. I'm sure he'll appreciate it tremendously ... a wonderful poem in recognition of a wonderful poet we miss a great deal. I hope he's back soon!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Miss Ruthie ... a certain cowboy asked me to mosey on over here and tell you thank you so very much for this very cool and generous gift of your words.
He is both honored and touched by you and this poem, and he asks me to tell all who replied so sweetly -- thank you so much.
He says it is wonderful to be missed and he misses all of you as well.
He is still traveling from city to city with this new job.

Nan: How kind you are! *S* Thank you!

Marge: I'll hug you right back, sweet lady! *S* And yeppers... *G* It sure would be nice to hear jingling spurs. LOL. Thank you very much.

Kit: Thank you so much... your praise means a lot to me! *S* And I certainly join you in hoping he's back soon... his poems and responses are greatly missed. *S*

JM: Thank you, ma'am. *S* I'm so glad the cowboy likes this... and appreciate you letting him know about it. *S* Tell Mr. Bohannan that if this traveling keeps up much longer, we're gonna all have to chip in and buy him a laptop... not so he can get HIS fix but so we can get OURS! LOL

jellybeans: Since you happen to be standing... how good are you with a lasso? LOL. Oh, never mind... Mark will be retired before you and I figure out how to untangle the rope! *G* Thank you, dear friend... so very much!

Fading Away: Thank you very much! *S*

Seymour: oooooooops... *EG* Lemme cover that shy lil thing. LOL. Thank you, kind sir!

Tiersdin: I'm so glad you liked... thank you very much for your kind response! *S*

Balladeer: But... but... but... I've written poems for you! LOL Granted, I was cheering on your adversaries... but you WERE the subject! LOL. As for this poem... thank you very much. *S* The great poetry and wonderful responses Mark has given us are certainly worthy of tribute better than I can give... we are the lucky ones that he found these blue pages... and I hope he's back with us soon. *S*

GS: I hope he knows how much he's missed... for he's definitely one of our very best. *S* Thank you! *S*
