The Gift

It was a gift he said, not just for me but for all
I couldn’t believe this man could halt my fall
The spiraling out of control tumbling that was me
As I searched but didn’t find an answer to mystery
He said so softly I almost didn’t hear him speak
Follow me and I knew he held the answer I seek
Come and lay with me and I will satisfy the need
So I went to him watched him plant truths seed

It was so simple he said, listen with all you are
I couldn’t believe that he could be my hearts star
The light that I sought but never found in anyone
The warmth that caressed me came from his sun
He asked me gently why I sought any answer at all
And in asking he answered my questioning call
Hear what I say he said placing the words in me
So I sat and heard him solve life’s boundless mystery

It was too hard to watch, but I couldn’t walk away
I couldn’t understand why they were scared anyway
They had welcomed him only one little week before
And now they were hurling abuse and hate once more
He was so gentle he saw my tears and said don’t weep
I'm not going far for I have a special promise to keep
Then they took him and I cried all the night through
So I waited for him to come back to see if he was true

It was death I saw it through my veil of despair’s tears
I couldn’t believe he was gone I was swamped by fears
They let me take him at the end of that dreadful day
I found some of his friends and then we took him away
I used my tears to wash the blood from his beloved face
And not having anything else I used linen not fine lace
I covered him and l left him lying alone and so cold
So I took my pain and waited for my spirit to again fold

It was quiet in the garden, where I walked in despair
I couldn’t believe I would ever again see him there
They said I was foolish to think he would come for me
Suddenly he came towards me, my Lord I could see
My heart knew him before my eyes drank in the sight
My Lord was there and my soul took wings in flight
That was the gift he had brought for me and for all
He broke death’s chain and his love answered the call

Amen! Marsha, this is an exquisitely written poem of the death and resurrection of our Lord...it could only come from a heart that truly knows Him! Ellie

Marsha, this is exceptionally well written. The beauty of your words and the pictures was a gift to me. I'm searching for answers and in your words I may have found what I have needed for a long time. Thank you for having great love of Him to write this masterpiece.

God's blessings, Kate

Marsha,
You have combined the wonderful truth of our Savior in poetry and images.  I was blest by the reading of this excellent poem and reminded that Christ did not die for me alone, He died for ALL. Thank you for sharing this "Master" piece.

I thank you everyone for your wonderful words but I cannot take credit for this. The original inspiration came from Margie girl who's poem In HIS Hands, sent me to pray in our hospital chapel. I knelt there in the morning sunlight and spoke to our Lord, who's peace on Easter Sunday seemed to pass through the air itself. I don't really know how long I was there, but I don't think it was truly very long. I then toddled off to my work which was tedious and at the same time very hectic. When I had a break due, instead of heading into the canteen to be poisoned or into the garden to look at the ducks I sat at my desk and this gift appeared under my pen. I knew at once that it was a true gift, it is totally unique. I have had poems appear before but normally they do need a little tweaking. This is in exactly the identical form it was. The pictures are from the stations of the cross, and again I didn't have to search for them they came almost by magic.

The story of this poem is loosely based on Mary Of Magdela, or so I thought when I read it out loud. So I thank you, each and everyone, you all are a blessing to me. I wonder what I did to deserve such fabulous friends.
May his light shine ever on you all
Love and warm stuff

And Margie girl, thank you for the inspiration, thank you for your gift.
