A sullen twig
with nary a flower, nor bloom,
pouts in midnight air.

Nervous fingers point toward the moon
as if to inquire,
“Do not go gentle into where?”

For no memories fade,
when there is no rage—
living amongst those that do not care.

While others dance,
a wind-made romance,
with cause and a certain flare

for they’ve been blessed
with gifts of seedlings,
and flourish true and fair.

Upon seeing the lonesome twig,
I stepped forward,
sending my words upon the air.

“Oh, sullen twig
made of Heaven’s heart,
surely there must be a pair.”

“Is there not a branch
on that there tree,
one with whom you may share?”

“For I see the presence
of your pain
and wish to strip it bare.”

With a patience unrecorded,
I awaited a response,
a response to my care.

But standing there,
I discerned the plight,
with leaves blowing about my hair--

a sudden wind,
stout and sturdy,
caught upon the air.

Hearing a snap,
I turned my head
and sullen twig was not there.

I, too, looked skyward,
and spoke to the moon,
“The twig went gentle, but I know not where.”

I turned and walked away,
sullen and forlorn.
Yet I did not glance back; I did not dare.

Dylan, you did him well;
and in that forrest deep
the sound did fell
to where I must not utter,
but rest in this assurance
nothing grows in vain.

"I am not now that which I have been."

I very much enjoyed this response to Dylan Thomas. Your writing is simply wonderful, my friend. You have such a creative mind..

Thank you, Koko.  I appreciate you taking the tim eto read something I wrote.  It warms me to know some like what I do.  And, thought I love what I do, I simply find it amazing that anyone would consider my work "decent."  Embers

Ah...a wonderful reply. You kept the flavor of the 'gentle night' quite nicely.
