I got it from my mother-
the day she said to counselor--
"No. I am not signing this.
I do not think that this is HER."

I got it from my father too...
I watched him every day.
I made his coffee, polished shoes
as he worked his life away.

I got if from my sister, sad,
mascara runs creating bags,
"Beauty is what you should seek."
appearances dispelling bleek.

And my brother, Hippy-love,
acceptance in a drug-filled shrug.
"You are fine just as you are!
already, you, are distant star."

Another brother, fine in suit,
methinks, escape of institute
White sheep of the family
"don't follow them--follow me."

Finally now, my sister, tense,
the one who thought my thoughts intense.
"To hell with them and recompense
not one of them spoke any sense..."

And finally now
there is but me
the baby of
the family--
I will not go
where others went
no follow
path of ease intent
and even be it rocky road
I claim the wilderness- my own.

I like the individuality you display in this one.

Go make your own mistakes not the mistakes of others. I like the family, but they all seem to have their own baggage.

I love the clever and uniqueness of this poem sen...
and the family portrait done so poetically perfect...
each one defined so well in a single verse
this is a very cool poem

"You are fine just as you are!
already, you, are distant star."

YES YOU ARE!!!
kisskiss me twin
me

Every moment of every day
youre still with me in every way
Every poem and song...every rhyme and verse
youre still here...like a beautiful curse

I want to thank you all--and (serenity grins) today, I am especially grateful that certain people did NOT read this...lord knows, I'd never hear the end of it!
