The Pavement

My lord, could stones but speak
These would attest
The truth of all that lies before you.
A jest? Thou art quick. And yet,
Seamless would their logic be
For all know well our masons' skill.
Better with the trowel than sword?
I yield the point that took my country.
But to return. Come, step down
To thus inspect the beauty of our native granite.
My lord, I mean the stone, not this
Peasant.
The heat? Of course. I understand.
Ferocious can our climate be
To Roman blood.
Now, as for this threat.....

I really like the tone of this, yet, it really is too deep for me. I believe I know what it is about, but not the details at all.

Well written, I liked the archaic feel to this.  I'm thinking it has to do with the fall of Rome, but it's been too long since I've been in history to remember details to make me more confident of that.  Nonetheless, wonderful writing.

Virginia, Kay, and Alwye.....Not quite as successful as I would have liked in capturing the possible air of political exchange between a Scribe (lawyer) and Pilate on what was called the Pavement. The "native granite"...that is, the rejected stone...being the Carpenter.  Thank you for your comments. Back to the drawing board. Bob

Certainly not back to the drawing board...this parchment on blue just moves with the stream and the winds...

much too fast...

let the waters lie quiet, so that all good might rise back to the top...

Bob...you are one interesting poet! And the scriptural references are notoriously difficult to do, (God knows)
I continue to enjoy your amazing work!

Never back to the drawing boards RMW ... this was splendid!  You've captured this beautifully, and I loved the tone in your phrasing, really well done!

Best wishes,
/Kit
