Let Us Dance
Virginia Salter

I have a friend
whom some may call an enemy
yet my protection
is my friend’s zeal
she helps me feel
and be real
though I may reel
in agony
of wretched things
that mar my soul
deter my goal
take their toll

my friend
stands tall
sometimes yells
sometimes screams
sometimes messes with my dreams
yet she’s a friend
yes, through and through
she gives a sign
I’m not aligned
and I might need
to turn from you
for just a while

so I’ll take heed
she knows my need
and I shall feed
on messages she sends
to set me free

her name is anger,
when I’m in danger
somewhere deep within,
she’s ready for a fight
so I’ll survive
remain alive
somehow come out all right

she’ll reveal,
if I let her feel,
what wounds need dressing
what part of my heart
caressing
so help me dance with her
let me take a chance with her
let us embrace the unity of our lives

love those lines

really cool piece here.... she helps me out sometimes, too.... good friend to have on occasion when you really need her.... but.... she pisses me off!!!!!!!!!

(gotta keep that friend under control, y'know? don't dance with her too often... she tries to lead)

This poem was inspired by a counselor's talk at a Hospice Hope for Healing meeting on Grief.  She pointed out that anger really is our friend and it's letting us know that there is something inside of us that needs attention.  That it's like a pot on the stove about to boil over, we must lift the lid to see what's causing the boiling.

Given the response after the poem, you've shed new light on an emotion that I try to live without....

I must now look upon anger in a new, and different light....

thank you for shedding light into a corner of my life....

indeed a new viewpoint on something that we need to understand is a part of us. . . but that we must keep in line. . .

excellent. . . you've made me think. . .

Excellent! I think we need to accept and embrace all our emotions before we can truly live.
