I pour my heart out for all the world to read
Words are planted here just like little seeds
Perhaps in time they will blossom and grow
When I write them they are pure as new fallen snow

Flowing straight from my heart to this poet’s pen
They have the strength and might of ten thousand men
Some will soothe you when you are feeling down
Others will make you feel you wear a jeweled crown

Sadness at times emits from my reservoir
Grabbing your heart no matter where you are
Once you are under any writer’s spell
You’ll forget the moment you even fell

Their words will wrap around the edges of your soul
It’s possible they could leave you feeling whole
Warming throughout from deep down within
Placing you in a trance as soon as they begin

You are transported to many distant lands
By the poems composed by these talented hands
The world is your oyster to now explore
All you have to do is unlock the poet’s door

No need to wait, turn the knob now
But first remember in reverence to bow
Giving thanks to the gods who oversee
The blessings that have been given to thee

All writing comes
by the grace of God.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

This was so good. You covered all aspects of what reading poetry can do for a person. Enjoyed it very much.

That was an insightful lesson in what poetry does, but I do hope a poet will write it for themself first, and enjoy the excursion their heart and mind explore, as that is the gift, the real gift.  This was very well done and a wonderful read.
