*Thank you to Doreen whose poem
"Things I Don't Need Anymore - Spring Cleaning" inspired me,
I know now that these emotions needed to pour out of me*

Attic Of Useless Memories

An attic packed with boxes
full of regurgitated dreams
saved for those 'just in case' days
that never came,
now a playground
for cobwebs and mildew...
a shrine to regret
~
Years of glamour magazines
piled high
with overwhelmed pages of perfect vixens,
reminders of how ugly
and unworthy I am,
stained with
anorexia and builimia
disease of memories
still engraved in my body
and love-starved spirit
~
Cans of pastel paint
which have turned
cold and hard
like my heart
and soul,
that no amount of love
could stir anew...
rainbows eventually
fade colourless
by the downpour
of rain's acid weeping
~
Old wallpaper pieces
that once filled
a youthful room
with swirls of reveries
of balloons and teddy bears,
sweet dreamcatchers
on walls of giggles
and precious precociousness
now muted
by sorrow
~
An outdated end table
adorned by a porcelain ballerina
containing the once delicate
pearls and lace perfume,
a gift from my Grandma
when I was six,
and now, the tip of her cream slipper
is chipped...
a bitter bottle
parched with the stale scent
of what can never pirouette
the June morning my Grandma died
~
Trinkets and photographs
from darling little girl days,
dusty, musty and dirty,
trapped in time,
erased by my hands
in an instant
with one single rip,
knowing that innocence
has met it's decay

Melybee...what inspiration from Doreen...

to have you share imagery of not only sight, but sound, feel, and smells...

this, my dear, to me...

makes the poet.

You did one he** of a poem there gal!  Not only did you cover all the senses, but you sure did a wonderful job with all the emotions with your imagery and   that is "real" poetry  , good for you!  And, by the way - it is all stuff, just stuff, it is our hearts and minds that are our china cabinet of those things we treasure, the rest are really just dust!  Hugs, this was wonderful!

missy,

it's good to see
you releasing these
emotions, a powerful,
sad poem
