Why is it that
others
must spoil the heart,
making it a
timid,
mistrusting thing,
so fearful of taking chances?
Why must the heart
be so fragile
requiring us
to build
inpenetrable walls
for protection?
Who is more the fool,
the one who causes
the hurt
or the one
who receives it?
If ever
you need a friend
to ease a troubled mind
or share some lonesome moment,
give me that chance.
If others
ever
cause you to doubt
your own worth,
come to me
and I will show you
what fools they are.
