     the charmer leans in
attentive if disinterested
  the volley more
     important than the substance
  napkin rises
again and again
     in a linen dance
of unsureness
  not yet settled
     in any way
  his vision follows
every passing  lead
     quickly returning to
feigned rapture
  neither the distraction
     nor the disrespected
  aware of the  wayward straying
i wonder
     if the knowledge of it
would make a difference
  or are such dishonoring actions
     now brushed away like
  the crumbs that even now
bounce across  the table
     napkin chased
the future possibly
  tabled across the
     well traveled
  narrow aisle
with whatever was on
     their minds unshared
and unwanted by
  the other
     faces absent of expression
  hands working at their plates
as drinks are sat before them
     the charmer gives their deliverer
the same smile he shares
  with his unsettled  date
who I am now quite sure
envies my seat alone

There is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar.

she is wanting

'Hooking us up'?....Jamie..are you from a hook and ladder department?

Could you hook me up with a piece of apple pie after my piece of meat?

There are things I remember:

That first steak in Tennessee
Meeting the Mayor
That lady in Applebee's
The bar with the yummy bread (with poppyseeds?)
That country place...with all the peanuts...
Can you remember the leopard skin skirt discussion? hehe...

Sigh...what I wouldn't give to be there again hon..so you didn't have that seat alone...

your poem is wonderful, but you already know I think that right? Sorry it took me so long to get here...

I will critique it in private as per your request - such a shame...hehehehe...

hugs my sweet J

Jamie

I loved this poem, and you really did show the reader the uneasiness of the date.
I really felt it too.

I bet she would've loved to have been sitting with you
I know I would

enjoyed this Jamie
