If you’re reading this, and you are a diabetic,
please be sure to read my note to you,
at the end of this poem.

( I’ve got the blues )
from the pinks, and the greens,
and the yellows, and the blacks,
not to mention all those luscious-looking
lavenders!
Those bright colors grab my eye...
Make it hard to deny...
That my fingers itch to be the guilty
gatherers!

( I must resist )
turn my back...walk away...
from the stack....but I stay...
And soon they’ll have me,
at the checkout stand...
Look around...all I see...
Is a great conspiracy...
Jelly beans...
looks like this thing was planned!

( I’m checking out )
I can’t stand anymore...
l’m addicted...where’s the door?
And why are all these beans here,
anyway?
It’s a joke...it’s pathetic...
Can’t eat just one...I’m diabetic...
But I know I ate my share...
in younger days...

( Still got the blues )
I can leave...I’m all through...
To myself...I’ve been true...
But wait!...something is calling
out to me...
Jelly beans...rainbow hues...
One bag left...and I can’t lose...
For every bean inside is
‘sugar-free’!

There are 16 million diabetics in the U.S. alone.
Someday there will be a cure, but for now,
there is support.  If you need this support,
I highly recommend the site listed below.
It is new, it is warm, friendly and comfortable.
It is maintained by and for diabetics.

The address is:

http://communities.msn.com/LifeAfterDiabetes

(Tell Phatz that Sunny sent you!)

hi SEA...
it's good that you already know a bit about diabetes then, and are watching things. Mine is hereditary, and someday genetic research may find a cure for that type, but for now I get a lot of help from this site.  It's just getting under way, and it is small, but your Dad would probably appreciate the fact that it's there.  Thank you for reading this, and for helping me spread the word, my friend.  I do appreciate it!!

Sunny, Boy do I understand this addiction.  Very nice read, been there and can feel it now, that yearning, itching on one shoulder and the devil on the other...phew... I have a friend coming for a visit in 2 weeks - she is diabetic - I will send her to this site. Thanks. Panne.

...Hi Jellybeans...
Yes, I realized that was your handle, after I posted this, and I'm glad that you liked it!!  Diabetes is hard enough on the older ones, but it must be really tough on the little ones.  I will be moving soon to a bigger area, and I hope to work with the young diabetics.  Thank you for your support!

...Panne447...
Oh, I always did have an addiction to those jelly beans!! And I believe your diabetic friend would appreciate that site.  There's even a friendly chat session on Tuesday nights.  Yes...thank you for mentioning it to her.  It's a disease that has grown to alomost epidimic proportions in this country, and the more folks aware of it, the better.   Thanks again!!
