I stand here sadly,
alone and bereft
knowing there are no saving words left

I cannot speak out
to say your name
words die like embers after the flame.

It was,
from the start,
meant to be.
No one like you
could ever love me.

You claim it was I
that caused this rift
casually allowing our love to drift.

My lack of commitment,
unwillingness to share
was the reason, you said, you began not to care.

Silently, forlornly,
unable to speak
you slide out of my life, truer love to seek.

You said it was me,
right from the start,
I say it was you that broke my heart.

The only thing
on which we agree
is once
I loved you
and once
you loved me.

There are so many that would be able to identify with your poem.
          "I cannot speak out
           to say your name
words die like embers after the flame."
So sad, when words are empty and can no longer repair or heal.  Great poem!  Well done!

I suppose this poem speaks of two not falling in love at exactly the same time and degree and so sadly one moves on not giving love the time to develop and grow...James

Oh PdV
This is sad and sometimes how love ends, tearfully and sadly one blaming the other for something they both have caused sometimes unknowingly.....great write

Very well done, PdV..."The only thing upon which we agree..."... That line is probably true of nearly every lost love in existance... 'Tis a melancholy but magnificent piece, my friend...

Thank you all for your kind replies.

This is a repost I think...so it's not really about me at this point in my life. One must BE in a relationship to know the pain of losing it.

Sharon, this is such a sad piece... but it's very well-written. You are truely the devine poet!!! Thanks for sharing.
