He takes her cheeks in trembling hands
Raises tear drenched eyes to his own
The question dies on his lips, unasked
Just one look
             Thats all it took
                              To set him free

She kept the truth well hidden
In eyes he knew so well
But in that one unguarded moment
With a look
           With just one look
                             She set him free

He let his hands drop to his side
She was his sun, til her eyes revealed
That the sun had long since set
And her look
            That honest look
                            Just set him free

It wont be easy letting go
Of a life that was supposed to be forever
He turns his back, as she walks away
He didnt look
             That one last look
                               Because he was free

Paula~
This is so very sad.

'The question dies on his lips, unasked'

Sometimes it happens just this way ...
Poignantly told, hon.

Paula~
Your poem has touched my heart with a heavy,
familiar hand...such saddness in being
"free" when we don't want to be...but in
time freedom will become a gift...when compared to loving and not being loved in
return...sorry I guess I'm lost in the
situation that this poem brought to mind in
my own life...as poetry often does.
Fantastic writing~

This is sooo sad. To quote a favorite song..Freedom is just another word for nothing else to lose.

Paula sister mine, if I had any doubt that you were a fabulous writer, after reading this I wouldn't have. I never have had any doubt of course, I knew you were soooo talented. This says it all love, and yes I LOVE IT

Utterly wonderful work

Talking of which I must now fly away again
Love and warm stuff
                    Mushy

Fabulous work utterly outstanding

Take back the hope you gave,- I claim
Only a memory of the same

If I ever have to go, that's the way I want it ... short, quick, and undeniable.

Magnificent work!

How gentle and loving these words are!

When lips tell lies... check the eyes. *S* This is well written sadness... goodbyes are never easy... especially when one still hoped.

Well done Paula! Sometimes the love just disappears or it was never there all the way in the first place....what can you do if you're on the recieving end of love that's no more?  Not much, just write a poem like this and keep on going.
