Night is Here
Virginia Salter

night is here
something’s pulling
upper eyelids
weighing down
trying to extend
to puffiness
of cheeks, lower lids

arms heavy
shoulders barely move
barely,
need tonnage removed

fingers move
almost independently
of thought
thought process
locked

virtual memory
kicks in
I rise
seek path to
slumber
good night

Virginia,

It's almost 2:00 am here and I'm wide awake.  Will be until about six.  I envy people that feel this sleepy.  It's rare that it happens to me.  Good poem.  I enjoyed it much.

A wonderful description of how we feel when we're sleepy.  I hope you don't get wide awake as soon as you get into bed.  that happens to me.  Joyce
