Sentient Morning
Virginia Salter

a distant rumble
pulses the morning
workmen bent on accomplishment
truck drivers aim their loads
mowers, tractors, cats and blades,
in their Deere, John
workouts

sunshine of summer
warms, heats, fights with breeze
for strangle hold on temperature
and day’s inhabitants

tree limbs wave
as heat rises and falls
in life’s currents
flowers glisten color spots,
yet, will wilt in afternoon sun,
as pine for cool of shade,
quenched thirst
from water droplets

butterflies, moths
dragon flies, wasps
flit, hum, chew, sip
succulent leaves,
sweet, sweet nectar
of blooms’ abundance

bumble bee
in wide-striped p.j.’s
almost hops from
pistil to pistil
gathering pantaloons
of yellow powder

sinking deeply
into each sugary cup
then climbing out
barely affected by his load

Thanks, loads, Brad for reading and commenting so quickly.  I need to ready myself for school now, but will be back periodically during the day to read and comment.
