Sentient Morning Virginia Salter a distant rumble pulses the morning workmen bent on accomplishment truck drivers aim their loads mowers, tractors, cats and blades, in their Deere, John workouts sunshine of summer warms, heats, fights with breeze for strangle hold on temperature and day’s inhabitants tree limbs wave as heat rises and falls in life’s currents flowers glisten color spots, yet, will wilt in afternoon sun, as pine for cool of shade, quenched thirst from water droplets butterflies, moths dragon flies, wasps flit, hum, chew, sip succulent leaves, sweet, sweet nectar of blooms’ abundance bumble bee in wide-striped p.j.’s almost hops from pistil to pistil gathering pantaloons of yellow powder sinking deeply into each sugary cup then climbing out barely affected by his load © July 28, 2000 |
