I remember way back when
You and I would go to the park
Only two blocks away in reality
But to us it seemed so much farther

We’d spend the best part of the day there
Laughing, talking, without a care in the world
Playing literally for hours on end
Under the warm sun and blue sky

Remember how we used to swing
Making a contest out of it
To see who could go highest
Although it really didn’t matter

We were in it for the fun of it
All those contests we made up
Pushing ourselves to the limit
Just to see how far we could go

Then we’d climb around on the monkey bars
I can still see us sitting there talking
Side by side at the top of the slides
For what seemed like an eternity

Then we’d go over to the sand box
Digging deep to the cool part
Where little hands smoothed it out
So we could write our names

No matter how old we got
We never seemed to outgrow
The confines of our park
I still think of it that way, you know

We still went there frequently
As teenagers lost in time the moment
We stepped through that gate
You and I, the same as always

I think we must have spent
Thousands of hours together
Tennis rackets in hand
Banging that ball back and forth

It is amazing how long we’d play
In the heat of the summer
Sun beating down on us
Barely a breeze to speak of

Yet the game always continued
Between breaks for food or water
A few minutes here and there to rest
Then we’d be back at it until dusk

Even though we’ve shared countless times
Filled with more memories than I can fathom
I want you to know these times were my favorite
All the days spent at the park with you

I look back on them now with a smile
You, my oldest and dearest friend,
Share the most precious bond with me
A childhood full of memories to last a lifetime

All writing comes
by the grace of God.

You've taken us on a beautiful stroll
through the garden of your memories
Jenn...wouldn't it be nice to go back
every once in a while...and better still
to find the simple bonds of friendship
like we all had back then...friendship
built on being just who we are...silly me...
that is what we have   and what we found
here..in a meadow of poetry...Hugs to you
my friend...you weave like an angel~

Childhood friendships contain so many memories, but those memories are most precious when the friendship has continued to adulthood. And what precious memories you have here! I'm sure that Michelle cherishes them as much as you do!

BDC - Thank you for accompanying me on this little stroll down memory lane.  It would be wonderful to back every now and then, but I know it will never be the same as it was.  Life was a whole lot simpler then for us both.  I believe we do have a friendship built on who we are and we were lucky enough to find it here amongst all this poetry.  Thank you, my friend, for your kind words and hugs right back!!

Brad - Thank you!  It is wonderful.

PoeticKnight - I think everyone should have a friend like that.  It makes life so much better.

Elizabeth - The memories are many and precious, every single one.  Yes, I am sure Michelle also cherishes them.  How can we not?  We've known each other for 26 years!!  Time sure does fly when you meet someone when you're three!!  Thank you!

Ohh...This was a beautiful portrait of friendship memories. Geesh..You played those war games too!? I think you've inspired a poem that I will work on in the comfort of my notebook because this kind of inspiration deserves some extra work. Thanks for sharing this beauty with us, and thanks for the inspiration.

LoneWolf~
When childhood friends hold hands for a lifetime ...
that is a very, very special bond.

I call it a marvelous fraternity of sistership
when the merry-go-round of life spins us around
and drops us, face-up laughing, in the memories of the sandbox !

Wonderful joy for you to share Michelle with us.
Thank you.

What a treasure you are to do this for your friend, and what a treasure she has in you.  This was lovely, and I thank you for sharing it.

Brilliant.  I enjoyed and thought back on my childhood friends.  I still have contact with one, she and I were always close.  It is nice to know her now as an adult.

Sven - It is awesome when friendships last a lifetime.  Thank you.

Temptress - The memories are treasure to me.  So many things shared.  You are welcome for sharing and I am looking forward to seeing the poem.

Marge - The bond is one that I hope will last a lifetime.  Funny how we don't get to see each other much these days yet when we do, we just pick right up where we left off.  You are welcome and I thank you for reading.

Nate - Glad you enjoyed mine, but try one of your own.  You just may surprise yourself!!

Mysteria - I think she is the treasure to put up with me for so many years!!  LOL.  Thank you much!

SpitFire - Aw, thank you.  It left me with a warm feeling too.  You take care too.

Joyce - Not sure I am wise, but I knew that bond would never be broken and it hasn't been.  We are very lucky.

Red - Glad to help you recall.  It is always nice when the friendship continues once you become adults.  Half the fun is when we get together and remember some of the things we did.  Hilarious!!  Thank you!

Kathleen - Happy to uplift and share the memories.  They are very special to me.
