Metamorphosis

If only I could stand before my bedroom window,
touch my hand to the inviting glass and leave this caterpillar body...
for emptiness and ugliness to seep out of my tired veins
to be replaced by beauty and ecstasy,
at last, to escape this sickly skin, delighting in the enchantment
of spreading my splendorous wings,
to fly beneath the heavens,
to be careless...to soar,
if only I knew how it felt to hear the first morning song
of the lustrous red-breasted robin, nestled in the trees
like a musicbox playing a passionate melody in my newborn ears,
if only I could know how it would feel to suckle on the dew
from the white breast of a rose...
a taste of paradise, flowing like liquid poetry upon my tongue,
to be lured by the sweet, exotic fragrance of a peach stained blossom,
seduced as it's silky layers engulf me in it's everlasting love,
to embrace the magnificance
of feeling magnolia leaves gently caressing my glorious wings
like God's fingertips to the golden strings of a harp
brushing softly against the palette of my colours,
if only I could feel the mist of the cloud's tears
trickling down from the sapphire sky to dance across my face,
for my slender body to marinate in the wide open air - to glide...
to be greeted by the warmth of the crimson yellow sun
dripping rays of honey hope over my soul
and by the chill of the wind, penetrating my long spine,
to ingest the crispness of the autumn air above clouds of angels,
grand and marvelous the rapture,
to flutter over rich turquoise waters
and through ardent fields of emerald -
vivid beyond imagination, rejuvenating my once weary heart,
if only I could journey to the ends of the earth
to find glory and peace forevermore,
where pain and sorrow and stale memories no longer exist,
I wish I could know how it would feel to digest freedom,
if only I knew how it felt to finally be free
ever graceful....as a butterfly

Wow! Holy Toledo!
What a gem!
Melissa, your build-up to 2000 is so-oo worth it...
I don't have time to spend at the Open Forum these days....so happy to have the chance to read this!
And amid all your wondrous imagery and emotion, the phrase that grabbed me the most intensely is:

"I wish I could know how it would feel to digest freedom,"
I just can't say enough!
This is so very precious....
may your wings take you triumphantly toward your next milestone marker....
Hugs,
Lary

Butterfly on a Wheel
By The Mission UK,
from Carved in Sand

Silver and gold, and it's growing cold
Autumn leaves lay as thick as thieves
Shivers down your spine, chill you to the bone,
cause the mandling wind is the melody that turns your heart to stone
The heat of your breath carvin shadows in the mist
Every angel has the wish, she's never been kissed
A broken dream, haunting in your sleep
Hiding in your smile, a secret you must keep love cuts you deep.
Love breaks the wings of a butterfly on a wheel
Love breaks the wings of a butterfly on a wheel
There's no scarlet in you, lay a fair down for me
Sure has got me twined, you can't wrap you arms around a memory
Take warmth from me, cold autumn winds cut sharp as a knife
but in the dark for me you're the candle flame that flikkers to light
Love breaks the wings of a butterfly on a wheel
Love will break the wings of a butterfly on a wheel
Love breaks the wings of a butterfly on a wheel
Love will break the wings of a butterfly on a wheel
Wise men say all is fair in love and war
And there's no right or wrong in the design of love
And I could only watch as the wind crushed your wings
Broken and torn, crushed like a flower under the snow
and like the flower in the spring, love will rise again to heal your wings
Love heals the wings of a butterfly on a wheel
Love will heal the wings of a butterfly on a wheel
Love heals the wings of a butterfly on a wheel
Love will heal the wings of a butterfly on a wheel

Melissa - You've done a wonderful job here - There's not much in nature that can compare to the metamorphosis of a butterfly, is there?? - and 2000 posts is a superb accomplishment - Congratulations...
