I had a jelly glass
when I was little,
short,squat thing,
thick and imperfect;
covered with polka-dots
of every color.
I remember holding it,
fingers strangely fat
above the milk line,
magnifying the hills and valleys
of my hand land.
I looked forward to
my glass of breakfast milk,
because when I turned it up,
it flooded through
the hills and valleys,
and the polka-dots looked
like tiny bright heads
bobbing along on a creamy river.
