I want to be a poet,
and pen an ode or two,
I'll write of trees and bumblebees,
and maybe even you.

I'll use some thees, throw in some thous,
I'll call my ode a sonnet,
What's that you say, some Shakespeare dude?
Oh what the heck, doggone it!

How about a flowing rhyme,
as smooth as baby's bottom?
Who's this guy, you say Lord Byron,
beauteous odes, he's got 'em?

I'll try again, here's what I'll do,
as teeth begin to gnash,
Of purple cows, nonsense I'll write,
My gawd! who's Ogden Nash?

I'd pull my hair, if I weren't bald,
I guess no odes tonight,
I'll put my pen and paper down,
give up without a write.

Oh heavens! No! Now don't give up!
You surely must be jesting!
For I just know a poet's pen
within your hand is resting.
Forget those guys who came before ~
well, maybe not Bard William,
but all the rest, and dozens more ~
My word, there are a zillion!
But only one like you, I bet,
so here, keep thinking on it.
Before you can say "Doggerel"
you'll pen a classic sonnet!

(What fun!) I love yours!

Mike I know you're not giving up.  Your poem reminded me of something I wrote.  apology   The Purple Cow.

I never saw a wealthy poet.
I never hope to see one.
But I am telling you right now.
I'd rather be than see one.

Your Honor~

I'm proud to know a poet
Who can 'one-up' and show it
You spin a phunny little spoof
you silly, silly goof !

And look at Meadowmuse
jumping in the ring -
Now look what you've started -
with this phunny, phunny thing !

What great fun !
I rest my case !  LOL !
