I have been defeated
so many times before,
but I have picked myself up
from off of that cursed floor.

How many times can I lose
without finally giving in?
How often must I fall
before I finally win?

Thought things had started to change;
that I was indeed on the right track,
I just wanted to move ahead
without ever looking back.

Things are not always
the way that they might seem,
and life is not that simple;
it's not just a happy dream.

Now I carry the scars
born of defeats from the past.
With time, the wounds will heal
and only the scars will last.

Oh, I might face defeat
time and time again;
but I'll rise up from the floor,
because I KNOW where I have been.

As long as you know where you have been and where you are going, you'll be just fine.  I love the determination!!

GS this has a wonderful message and cadence..
Im glad it got brought back up so I didnt miss it...
these pages just fly now..
geesh
great write of empowerment!

Though my soul may sit in darkness,
It will arise in perfect light.
For I have loved the stars too fondly ...
To be fearful of the night.

Janet, they move so fast I find myself going back a few pages to make sure I don't miss anything spectacular.  I wrote this one just as a reminder on a bad day, that the sun will shine again.....no matter how dark things seem to get at times. Self confirmation or something like that I guess.
Thanks sweet lady.

Mysteria, I get the feeling that neither one of us knows the meaning of the words quit....it's a strength from deep inside.  I see this in your words often.  Thanks for stopping by and hugs.

Gentle Spirit - I see from whence you received your name. This is most true, and you have described many places that I have resided. And these words are so real.

'Now I carry the scars
born of defeats from the past.
With time, the wounds will heal
and only the scars will last.

Oh, I might face defeat
time and time again;
but I'll rise up from the floor,
because I KNOW where I have been.

Bill, I think many of us have resided in such places, and have grown stronger for it.  The name came from a sweet poet friend who was trying to help me pick a name that would fit.  Thanks.

Somehow, knowing where I've been doesn't keep me from going there again... the first 3 verses are so familiar they could be my theme! *S* But along with the scars, you show plenty of strength... well done!

Sutheren, it took me about twenty years to quite going there, but now that I'm not.....I'm never planning on going back....or forgetting where I was.  Thank you and hugs.
