...trying to get back in the grove...hope this works....j.

Sort Of Pink, Seven Button

You left a shirt on my couch,
sort of pinkish white,
seven button,
slightly frayed left collar,
smells just like you,
Emaraude lingering…
cotton,  warm wash,
no bleach, medium heat…
Don't know if I'm going to tell you it's here,
you might want it back.
Think I'll just leave it there,
on the couch,
on the end where I sit.
I can pretend it's you there,
when I close my eyes
and sniff the air,
when I touch it with the tips
of my fingers.
It's just a shirt, I know,
but it has you all over it,
and until you come home,
from where ever you are,
I'll leave it there,
this shirt you left
to touch my senses,
warm my soul…
this sort of pinkish white,
seven button,
expression of love.

A great expression of longing.  I felt every word.  If you'd care to read, I wrote something similar called "It's Too Soon'.  You are a poet after my own heart.

Oh, JWesley~
I LIKE this a whole bunch-a-lot !
Wonderfully portrayed imagery.
Soft and delicately rendered.

Only a fellow Texan could pen this in such an expression of love and longing. 'Cuz it takes a heart as big as Texas to not only live it, but write it.  (No offense to non-Texans)

Well done, as usual.

your "back in the groove" JW ...
you sketched this scene in our minds with your words...
and left the scent lingering...
Im sure far too many of us have slept with someones scent on a shirt or article of theirs.
well done poet sir.

It's such a clever innocence with which you show myself to me

James--  This is a wonderfully done poem, with just the right touch of a sigh.

JW~ This is very very cool...the image and
the feeling that you've spun into this...yes
I'd say you are back in full force on this
one...funny how an inanimate object can
breathe so much life into a memory or a
thought...give comfort where once there was
none...Excellent writing!

hmmmmmmmm....I wondered where that shirt went~
