Reflections at the Window Table

I still cannot forgive the rain
That seemed
With lamp and brick to covenant
And bless with wine
The path that wound me to the restaurant.
As well the candle yet I blame,
Though had I even once glanced out
I might have guessed
Romance is love
In counterfeit.
