(may be a repost - if so please forgive redundancy )

Standing at the edge of the water
It is late and the memory of first buds
    Still fresh in my mind
    The shoots of Forsythia spreading
    Like wild yellow fire along
    Every roadside almost overnight.

As the lights across the bay
    And around me
    Are slowly quenched
    More stars become visible
    Until they fill the sky
    Like thick snow
    As my thoughts of you
    Burn deeper into my heart
    A shooting star scratches light
    Across this inky firmament

The first duty of love is to listen.

Bill--This sounds so pretty!...really liked this phrase: A shooting star scratches light
    Across this inky firmament

Thank you all - I'm happy when I can evoke some good word images - some of you merely brush the keys and each line is loaded -
and Sunshine - you shouldn't be surprised - I'm a Fitzgerald fan too ~S~
