Gardening in April, I am truly nature's child. The sun is newly warming. The winds have slowed to mild. Everything about me Is so eager to begin. My tools and knees are freshly oiled. Spring has uncovered Eden. The azaelas and the rhodies Have set the merry pace. The bursting buds on apple trees Are joining in the race. I am as fresh as my garden, I'm getting up to speed. This little bit of heaven Is all I'll ever need. All this unfettered beauty Has a few short weeks and then, I see the signs of mortality And age come creeping in. That arthritic finger Has begun to give me pain. The other aches I thought long gone, Are annoying me again. In the hot days of summer, The freshness has declined And fall will soon be closing in With winter not far behind. The flowers that still are blooming Have lost their maiden blush. The bed of lovely perennials Has turned into a brush. My garden is much like my life, Once beckoning and new, Too many pleasures in the past, Just the tidying left to do. By Joyce 4/1/2001 |

Joyce~ Relevant analogy noted ... LOL ! Spring into Spring with vigor - tend the garden well - The pansies that you plant today may have to last a spell ! Enjoyed the write, Ms. GreenJeans ! ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

You last line sums up life in general, and I loved your poem, the analogies, and a walk in your garden too! |

Lovely glimpse at the four seasons of gardening despite an arthritic finger. Spring thankfully announces it arrival. "I am not now that which I have been." |
