I come before Him humbly
My soul stained with sin
Worldly pleasures have corrupted
And tarnished me in my eyes
Yet I feel drawn to His house
As if He is calling me home

When I arrive I feel immediately
That I belong here with Him
I hear the sounds of praise
Flowing from within welcoming me
As I enter the chapel
I feel as if He is embracing me

For I have been away for a long time
Thinking I could do it on my own
Without His guidance and love
Only to find I need Him more than ever
For He gives me purpose and leads the way
Without Him I am lost to the world

His word washes over me like rain
I am swept away by the promise
Of everlasting life through Him
I shall never be alone again
I know He is always by my side
Ready to take my burden

All I have to do is ask
He takes up the slack effortlessly
I am blessed by His divine love
It leaves me feeling whole inside
My garments are white as snow
Wherever He leads is where I’ll go

Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats

I am reminded of Rabbi Kushner's book, Who Needs God, wherein the fist sentence he answers, "I do." Compassionate write.

"I am not now that which I have been."

And I hope that anyone feeling this way would continue to find the strength to never stray from that path. Truly beautiful. I wish for others (and you if this is your truth) the strength that I might one day seek again myself. I usually don't reply to poetry like this, but I opened it, and didn't feel a pull to stop reading.

We're sorry..this heart has been d-i-s-c-o-n-n-e-c-t-e-d. Should you like to hold the line we'll be glad to reconnect you..

Julian - The Rabbi is a wise man indeed.  Thanks for reading!

Temptress - The path is that of righteousness and does require strength to resist the temptations of the world, but the rewards are eternal.  Thanks for continuing to read this one.  This is my truth and the path I have chosen.  I did stray, but I have once again found my way.  I hope you do too.

Mysteria - Thank you my friend.

James - Happy to hear you enjoyed!
