An April Fool
Virginia Salter

such an April fool as this
sitting at my keyboard
contemplating should there be
a prank on day of Lord

something funny, yet benign
to tickle funny bones
of the fooler and foolee
and set the new day’s tones

how ‘bout the day’s been canceled
due to lack of apathy
a kind of double-talk
to lead to therapy

how ‘bout the saving’s time
being stretched an hour more
to send all in a tizzy
and lengthen shadow on the floor

or maybe spread a rumor
to fill all men with glee
that tax day has been canceled
to bless both you and me!

Clever writing, yet keeping with good poetic form.

"I am not now that which I have been."
