I never had a hamster.
I never had a snake.
I never had a skunk.
I won’t make that mistake.

I can’t afford an elephant.
A giraffe is much too tall.
A tiger or lion is too vicious
Those would never work at all.

A pony is too big.
A beetle much too small.
A dog has pesky fleas,
And a cat has sharpened claws.

The pet I cherish most of all.
Has been with me most of my life.
She is the sweetest thing I have,
She, of course, is my wonderful wife.
