Taste

Alive, this night of fitful heart
and stars astir in sky.
Aflame, such beating threatens start
of sparks in love's deny.

But what of passion's bubbling brew?
Unsated, thirst will grow.
Abandon doubt for derring-do
or reason's undertow?

Dilemma's drink is bittersweet
when flesh, afire, forgets.
And lips upon the brink of meet
taste, late, desiring's debts.

Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau

Claire,

Thank you for these wise words. The subject is an interesting one, involving, as it does the idea of getting, being, and remaining "close". It seems to me that while the New Testament expands the law from action to action AND thought, it also introduces the injunction to love, thereby complicating life considerably. The former suggests the prudence of simply turning away. The latter requires not only our turning towards, but moving near. And yet the reality of free will does not permit us to conclude that we have been placed between the horns of a dilemma. You and I do not disagree. The "brink of lips meeting" may be TOO close, however, it seems to me that fidelity shines most brightly when trust surpasses fear of falling.   Bob

Sunshine, Sven, Kethry, Bob, thanks very much for reading. Bob, we are sympatico, which is illustrated with the very line you chose to reference.  Lips upon the brink of meet surely taste, late, desiring's debts. Oftimes far too late, if they meet in answer to lust alone, as the debts of realizing (consummating  - "the brink of meet") ill-placed desire result, ultimately,  in great moral burden. My message was to beware that point of no return, as it were.  Thanks for reading. I'll work on my clarity. (o:
